Review of Knight and Day (2010) by Kylie K — 24 Jun 2012
Let's say for a second that you're the biggest Tom Cruise fan in the world. You've enjoyed every action flick he's been in, no matter how bad. So I can imagine your disappointment when I tell you that this film is one of the corniest, unexciting, incoherent summer lacklusters I've seen in a while. Sure, there's a few mildly exciting gunfights, but most of the movie revolves around your favorite action hero awkwardly and uncomfortably flirting with that Cameron Diaz chick. Is this what you want? NO!
Now let's imagine that you're Cameron Diaz's biggest fan in the world. Maybe you don't care what she's in as long as it's a somewhat passable comedy, chick-flick, or even an action movie. Trust me when I say that this movie fails at capturing any of these elements. It's unfunny to an almost embarrassing degree and is not romantic by any stretch. Diaz and Cruise have no chemistry and the whole thing comes off as a little strange. And trust me it is.
Nobody wins here. This horrible movie doesn't seem to have any idea what it is. Is it an action movie? An action movie parody? A rom-com with action sprinkles on top? I know what it is. A crappy movie.
At times when watching Knight and Day, when it seemed like the movie would focus itself, I saw small glimpses at what actually could have been an okay movie. But after these brief glimmers of hope faded and the movie went on to confuse me, I realized that it wasn't trying to be one movie. It was trying to be many. And guess what? It failed. Save yourself about two hours and skip this movie. Seriously.
