Review of Knight and Day (2010) by Ben Y — 14 Dec 2011

An exhilarating non-stop action comedy wonderfully directed by James Mangold, this film is propelled by the star power of its two leads, Tom Cruise is at his charismatic best here as Secret Agent Roy Miller and Cameron Diaz as June Havens delivers a remarkably adept comic performance in what surely is her best screen work in years.

The film opens at the Wichita Airport where Havens accidentally bumps into Miller more than once, in what will be a life-changing incident, after the both of them board a nearly empty jet plane, a life and death fight occurs in which Miller kills all his enemies sent to capture him or kill him? He lands the plane and goes on the run with Havens, It seems that Miller is protecting a device which could change the world forever, it is called "The Zepher" which is a small inexhaustible energy source, he is also hiding its creator a genius young nerd named Simon Feck, amusingly played by Paul Dano.

The F.B.I. and a powerful arms dealer are after Miller and Havens for the device, it becomes a transcontinental chase with incredible eye-popping action-sequences and white-knuckle stunts that will leave you breathless.

Superb supporting performances from Peter Sarsgaad, Viola Davis, Olivier Martinez, Jordi Molla, Falk Hentschel and Marc Blucas, but it is the great chemistry between Cruise and Diaz that carry this thrill ride all the way throught! This is a vastly underrated film which I enjoyed immensely, I have not seen a action comedy with this much thrills and hilarity in it since James Cameron's memorable action/comedy "True Lies.
