Review of Knight and Day (2010) by Stuart B — 07 Aug 2011
Thankfully there is enough charm and charisma to just about make this movie watchable, because otherwise I would have given up way before the 30 minute mark (which is how long Helena lasted). The premise is very, very tired; taking Hitchcock's The Wrong Man and adding a little True Lies to turn it into an action blockbuster, but with far too much dodgy CGI and a plot which ran out of ideas which made its 100 minutes seem much longer as it unevenly limped towards its climax, but with the combination of a tongue in cheek Cruise and Diaz as her usual playful best, it at least made the ride a little more bearable.
There were certainly elements to enjoy, but the film stopped and started so often you could never keep focus, while quality actors such a Paul Dano and Peter Sarsgaard are criminally underused. So unfortunately the movie just felt like two movies mashed together with little coherence other than it's breezy, quick witted, 'kiss kiss bang bang-esque' dialogue, giving you a very hit and miss movie.
