Review of Knight and Day (2010) by Nick B — 07 Apr 2012
Its not a great movie, theres some bad effects, and Cameron Diaz is passed her prime in many ways... Its understandable why this movie performed so badly: 1) it premiered against Toy Story 3, Karate Kid, Shrek 5,000,000, & some other big titles... 2) its like a mission impossible/james bond movie - only with the surrealness cranked up to 11 and the main character replaced by a psycho... 3) its filmed in a serious manner except Tom Cruise is constantly murdering - Diaz even asks him at one point "can you stop shooting people?!".
All that being said, the fights are very cool and there is a lot of humor in it... theres also a ton of cheese as this genre is prone to do but its actually quite refreshing to see Tom Cruise play someone with massive skills and who is so reckless that you can never quite get behind him....
It also could have been much worse - it was originally supposed to be Chris Tucker and Eva Mendes and then Diaz and Gerard Butler and was originally titled "Trouble Man" or "Witchita".....
I'm glad I saw it and I'm glad it was free :).
