Review of Knife in the Water (1962) by Chris B — 18 Jan 2014
A Polish couple (older husband, hot wife in dumpy clothes) drive to the marina for a day of boating, and pick up a young hitchhiker, whom the husband decides should join them on deck. Tension ensues. This is Roman Polanski's first movie, it's supposed to be influenced by the New Wave. Is it wrong that I enjoyed it more than "Breathless?".
There's real tension here, and some pretty impressive use of the boat and the water for a novice director. Beautiful camera work, too. I was never bored.
