Review of Klute (1971) by Brett B — 25 Apr 2011
Jane Fonda's terrific performance and Gordon Willis' exemplary cinematography help push an otherwise-ordinary story over the edge into something very worthwhile. Sutherland, despite playing the titular character in a nicely earnest fashion, is really only here to support Fonda, and this is 100% her film.
The brief turns by Cioffi and Scheider add some interesting shading to the movie, and the aforementioned work by Mr. Willis is some of the best of the 1970's, but the mystery/suspense aspects of the story don't work as well as they could.
