Review of Klute (1971) by Jesse L — 10 Dec 2003
Viewed 12/10/03 (DVD) (First Viewing).
Jane Fonda won her first Academy Award for her performance as a popular New York City call girl/ aspiring actress who suddenly finds herself caught up in a missing persons search. And if it wasn't for her performance, this unsensational, rather dull thriller would have been forgotten long ago. The film hasn't aged well at all, and Fonda is forced to wear the worst 70's fashion had to offer.
Given the narrowest of recommendations because of Fonda. Her improvised therapy scenes and silent tears during the climax are remarkable. 'Tis a shame the rest of the film never comes close to reaching the same level.
