Review of Kites (2010) by Susheel M — 22 May 2010

Half a star for the songs in the order of preference:

1. Zindagi...

2. Kites in the sky (Purely for the voice of Hrithik..This man amazes me so much with his talent!).

3. Dil kyun yeh mera....

Half more for:

A. Hrithik's Jesus Christ look.

B. Barbara Mori (mmmmmmmm).

C. Few well shot frames/songs, location and landscapes.

Rakesh Roshan might have thought - 'I have an immensely talented 11 fingered son, an imported bombshell and a brother who can churn out 90s melodies even in 2010 and Why do I need a story/screenplay?'.

Sorry sir, you half cooked a disaster in the name of Kites.

Not sure why would someone like Anurag Basu even wear a director's cap when the screenplay or the storyboard is not even in place and for sure 'Main ullu ka patthi' genre of jokes are so old that they are fossilis now. Sooper silly.

No character in the movie delivers a dialogue which is more than 10sec in length. Hrithik has got nothing to do other than to just show up!

Barbara Mori's (aka Barbara Drainage as christened by @Suhas :P ) bimbo attitude is such a passe. Kangana Ranaut might have been tricked by saying she has a meaty pivotal role to play and may be Kabir Bedi had to pay his debt to Rakesh Roshan from Khoon Bhari Maang times which led them both to act in this flick!

The only funny part of the whole movie was the American side artists who comes in as Police, drivers, Goondas, Bank officials etc.

Glad that they were not made to deliver dialogues in Hindi.

Anurag Basu - Guess its time for some introspection especially after giving us movies like Gangster, Life in a Metro...a lot of expectation on Kites goes down the drain :/.

I wish the Roshans all the best and Im sure they can do a lot better than this - if not collectively, atleast individually :).
