Review of Kissing Jessica Stein (2002) by Franz P — 24 Sep 2007
I ended up liking this film a lot because it's both quirky and realistic. Jessica is someone I can relate to because she has certain neuroses that I have. One can tell that writers put some thought into the story because of its witty script.
They don't go for the easy laughs, which I really admired. A lot of the jokes are subtle yet accessible if one pays attention to the film. What I didn't like, though, is the supposed leading man of the movie.
Was the audience supposed to like him by the end of the movie? If so, it didn't work because I feel like we didn't get to know him enough. He's still that character that puts Jessica down.
I especially liked the ending because it suggests a lot about sexuality and critique about love lives. This is an enjoyable little film that one can cherish on a rainy day.
