Review of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005) by Liz — 06 Aug 2010
Action and Comedy are a very potent and agreeable mix. No more is it true than in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. The original style of writing/directing added character, charm and humor to every turn. The different chapters were clever and the narraration was side-splitting.
Robert Downey Jr. at his best. This role is a prototype for Sherlock Holmes and Tony Stark/Iron Man. He's clever, brilliant, sexy, funny, and has his own style of taking down the bad guys. It's remarkable how much Robert Downey Jr. can do with a well written character and a few snide remarks. Robert Downey Jr. is magnetic. You can't stop watching him no matter how hard you try. Either you're watching Robert Downey Jr. in this movie or your blind-folded and locked in a closet.
Val Kilmer, though not as hilariou as RDJ, was sensational. He was funny, and a completely new character. The fact that he was openly gay,a nd an action hero was refreshing.
Michelle Monoghan wasn't the damsel in distress. She was part of the action and the solving. She was definatly worth RDJ's time and effort. Michelle brought a charm to the role and to the movie that was very vibrant.
The writing was magnificant! It felt real, and yet "movie-ish". It's really hard to explain something so wonderful. The plot, the events, they all coincided so perfectly. There's this feeling of reality while watching the movie. Like someone couldn't have possibly written it. Like it was happening as they were going and they were finding out as we did.
Shane Black is definatly one hell of a director. Be sure to watch out for him.
OVERALL--- See this, or don't see movies ever again.
