Review of Kiss Kiss (Bang Bang) (2001) by Tawseef R — 18 Aug 2010
They say guns and love don't mix, only if you're a tough-as-nails gay detective (Val Kilmer) - so don't blame Harry (Robert Downey Jr) for trying. After breaking into a toy store, Harry, a neurotic, petty theif evades the police by darting into a film audition for a harboiled noir, and ironically lands at an A-lister party in Hollywood after impressing the producers with his out-pouring emotion. There he meets Gay Perry (Val Kilmer) who is helping him prepare for his role as the detective and the girl he'd known since childhood, Harmony (Michelle Monaghan) who is aspiring to be an actress.
After blotching his romance with Harmony by drunkenly sleeping with her friend instead and finding himself in a real murder conspiracy involving Harmony's little sister, Harry decides to convince Harmony he is a real detective and faithfully help her out.
A cool, thrust together trio make this tounge-in-cheek, blended action thriller and hardboiled noir film into a something lively and funny - effortless on Robert Downey Jr's part. So Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. Watch Watch.
Oh and to the good people in Hollywood, sorry I didn't say f**k a lot.
