Review of Kiss Kiss... Bang Bang (1966) by Peter N — 03 Sep 2012
Its premise and style are refreshingly unique, and the satirical elements are undeniably rich. However, I feel like I was expecting too much. As usual, Robert Downey Jr. gives a solid performance, and all the redeeming qualities of this film revolve around him.
Val Kilmer is better than normal, but due to Batman Forever I have never really been able to take him seriously as an actor. The story is slightly convoluted, but I managed to follow it the entire time.
I'll give it credit for being smart and boasting a better-than-average script. Maybe that's why the actors involved were able to shine. It's always nice to have good source material to work with.
Overall, the film is pretty good, and I may even watch it again some day, but don't expect it to be the independent greatness it's made out to be.
