Review of Kinsey (2004) by Lisa K — 02 Oct 2008

It was decent, I just didn't think it needed to be two hours. It hit pretty much all the same points of movies like this; the backstory with an overbearing parent, (played by the always awesome, John Lithgow), the controversy of the subject matter followed by the "surprising" success and then the downfall and destruction until it all builds to the exciting climax of the main character discovering something about himself he was too focused on his work to see two hours beforehand.

After the first 30 minutes, though, shit just kept repeating itself. People are too prudish about their private sex lives, here's what goes on behind the scenes. Throw in a random penis shot of Peter Sarsgaard, Laura Linney's creepy smile (I'll never get over her role in 'The Truman Show', haunting performance) and a subplot about a cheating whore who gets fucked by Timothy Hutton and you get this flick.

I dug the "cameo" by John Krasinski and Arden Myrin and it was cool to see Oliver Platt and Tim Curry with very different voices than I'm used to hearing from them but again, I lost interest after they found out Kinsey's dick was huge and never went anywhere with it.

I totally would've loved this movie if it was just Liam Neeson pounding chicks left and right but alas, they took the high road...dumb bastards...
