Review of Kinsey (2004) by Erno K — 17 May 2010
Holy crap, Peter Sarsgaard goes full frontal in this!
That is the observation I would most like to make about the movie. So I was not exactly bowled over by it. The film is sometimes very interesting, but it has too many redundant or drawn-out scenes and is a bit too long. The beginning is very strong I feel, but everything slowly deteriorates as the movie just keeps on chugging and the wasps just keep on piling. The subject matter is pretty dry, so some cutting would have helped.
It is almost more entertaining to witness all the archaic teachings and conventions relating to sex than the movie itself is. People really had no clue just a moment ago. I was plenty stunned at times.
I would watch Liam Neeson wash his socks (maybe as Abraham Lincoln, that would be awesome!), so naturally I was happy as long as he was on screen. Stellar cast helps as well, but I won't be seeing this one again.
