Review of Kingsman: The Secret Service (2015) by Andrea H — 02 Jan 2016
This movie had so much potential as a UK Men In Black snarky comedy. The testing portion of the movie is the best part but the movie falls apart with Samuel L Jackson's inconsistent and terrible lisp which undermines his usually spectacular stage presence.
Colin Firth is as dignified as ever and looks gorgeous in his tailored suits despite the obscene mass killing of churchgoers whose only crime is an implant unknowingly implanted in them or a sim card transmitting some kind of signal.
The movie is so star studded, complete with Alfred (from Batman) and the cool gimmicky weapons hidden in pens and shoes, etc, very James Bondish but really, the absolute worst of the movie is its depiction of the church as a bigoted, racist, sexist, homophobic, white, backwards, hokey institution.
I had to draw the line right there.
