Review of Kingsman: The Secret Service (2015) by Lewis E — 25 Dec 2017
Imagine James Bond on crack and you wouldn't be far away from 'Kingsman: The Secret Service'. There are plenty of things to enjoy in this movie: Colin Firth combines Roger Moore's 007 charm with crazy fighting skills, Michael Vaughn again brings his extreme brand of playful violence as seen in 'Kick-Ass' and Samuel L.
Jackson plays Samuel L.Jackson (last one is rather expected but we wouldn't expect anything less). The action scenes are packed with high adrenaline and impressive choreography, with the church brawl and final confrontation proving to be major highlights, while there is also a great comedic tone complimenting it throughout.
Amidst all the fun and entertainment, it is hindered at times by undeniable cheesiness, more specifically in some of its stunts, predictable plot twists and the commonly used excessive swearing put into the young protagonist's script in an aim to consolidate his London 'chav' image.
This element of cheese is further emphasised when they annoyingly added a cheesy scene right at the end even though the previous part would have finished the movie nicely. Preventing it from being an epic it may but it does not stop 'Kingsman: the Secret Service' from being a great source of entertainment.
