Review of Kingsman: The Secret Service (2015) by Lars O — 16 Nov 2018
A sophomoric and derivative slog. Kingsman features three leads performing in three barely related films. Firth is excellent as the lead in a sexy spy flick; Egerton is a stilted, feckless boob incapable of suspending the disbelief that he would be remotely effective in a fight; Samuel L.
Jackson plays a cartoonish villain with a lisp straight out of an old hat, done to death melodrama, that needs to exit...stage right, as soon as possible. All this is crammed together like another sodomy joke that Vaughn would have happily stuffed up your hind-quarter had he been creative enough to think of it.
Unfortunately, he wasn't and we're left with this pile of senseless mess that wasn't serious enough to be taken seriously and wasn't humorous enough to elicit a legitimate chuckle.
