Review of Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017) by Marcel A — 09 Oct 2017
Kingsman: The Golden Circle - Review (2017).
The Good.
Taron Edgerton's Fantastic Performance as well as Colin Firth, Mark Strong, and Pedro Pascal are fantastic.
Matthew Vaughn's Direction.
The Final Fight Scene is awesome.
The One Badass Channing Tatum scene.
The Cinematography is great.
The Score is fantastic.
"Country Road".
The Bad.
Julianne Moore's Mediocre Villain - Moore is really trying her hardest to sell the part, but the character isn't a touch on Samuel L. Jackson's hilarious Richmond Valentine from the first film, from her motivations to her methods and her general personality.
It doesn't help at all that she spends huge amounts of time off-screen in-between scenes, so she never really feels like a substantial baddie, and Moore isn't given particularly compelling material to gain any momentum.
Sadly her work quickly fades from memory, which given the obvious potential is a colossal disappointment.
The Side Villain Edward Holcroft is no where near as good or badass as Sofia Boutella from the first film.
Colin Firth's Return Explanation is pretty lazy.
The President Subplot - OH MY GOD WAS THIS SO FUCKING BAD, why in the blue hell was this even needed to show that our President Donald Trump is a Dumbass President and he would make us all die rather than save us, Matthew Vaughn I love you as a director, but WE ALREADY KNOW THAT.
THE FORCED Elton John Cameo - Listen I love Elton John an it was nice to see him once, but seeing him over and over and over and over and over and over and over and FUCKING OVER again is so annoying.
Most of the Main Cast is wasted like Halle Berry, Jeff Bridges and Channing Tatum (HUGE WASTE) even Sophie Cookson's returning heroine Roxanne is almost entirely sidelined.
The Brutal 141-Minute Runtime - You could cut the run time down a tad bit by taking out dumbass scenes like The President Subplot and All the Elton John Cameos.
The Script Is A Total Mess.
None Of The Action Matches The Church Scene - sure the Bar was set pretty high, but at least try to have a scene that could top it. Their still god just not as good as that scene.
Setting too much up for a Third Film.
Overall: While yes I did pick this movie apart and there are a lot of problems, but its still enjoyable and fun, just a disappointment that Kingsman: The First Service was amazing.
Overall Grade: C+.
