Review of Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV (2016) by Htgamer — 21 Jan 2017
Kingsglaive is a fantastic CGI fantasy/action movie on its own, regardless of its ties to the Final Fantasy XV game. Non Final Fantasy fans can easily watch this movie and understand it. The plot is simple and clear, which is about politics, schemes and redemption. The movie fleshes out the Final Fantasy XV story in a spectacular way, and runs in parallel to the early parts of the game. The action is awesome and epic in scale. The characters are well acted, too. The CGI graphics are beautiful and stunning, even if they don't look as realistic as some Hollywood blockbusters, but this was never the point about this movie anyway.
The only really bad thing about this movie is that a couple of characters are plain stupid and senseless in their motivations. I also have 2 minor complaints. One, some things are never explained. Two, unfortunately Kingsglaive and Final Fantasy XV aren't perfectly aligned in their backstories and the whole mythos. But if you haven't played Final Fantasy XV, you won't notice.
All in all, a solid 8/10 in my humble opinion. I can't see why Kingsglaive got negative reviews from the press.
