The last time I watched a documentary this delightful was a sweet piece about spelling bees called Spellbound. It's fun to follow contestants around before some big competition, getting emotionally involved, rooting for them like it's a great race; take that and add the fact that these competitors are blending art and culinary delights, tweaking absolute stress barriers to reach perfection. It's like watching a PG thriller.

But be warned, watching Kings of Pastry will make even the finickiest sweets eaters crave delicious pastries filled with cream and frosted cakes and whatever else the guys make that look like they'd make your tongue slap your brain with delight. It's the idea that these guys are among the best pastry chefs in the world that sells their merchandize. They're the wizards of whipped cream, the svengalis of sugar sculpture. And not all of them will go home with a medal. Only the creme de la creme...
