Review of Kingdom of the Spiders (1977) by Jt K — 21 Nov 2009
Typical nature-run-amok film from the late 70's, featuring a swarthy Shatner hamming it up (cuz, you know, that's what he does) as a small-town vet trying to stop an invasion of angry, colonized arachnids.
Standard genre story beats and bad dialog ensue and naturally the science is suspect at best. That said, it's a surprisingly effective little movie, if only because the notion of being covered in with big, hairy (but very photogenic) tarantulas gives me the willies.
It starts off slow (though you get to see plenty of Shat buttering up the local female population) but once the shit hits the fan, it's a race to the (rather abrupt) finish. It's good for a few (unintentional) laughs and maybe a few creepy-crawly moments.
