Review of Kingdom of Heaven (2005) by Lisa M — 10 Aug 2012

Fresh from his success with Gladiator, Ridley Scott proved yet again his flair for brutal combat and grand-scale historical fiction. Character development is sidelined this time in favor of this semi-true story's demand for awesome production and a poignant geo-political message.

All that this film lacks (if anything) is the growth of its main character; a role that demands little from an enthused if somewhat adrift Orlando Bloom. The supporting cast however shines with excellent performances from Liam Neeson, Eva Green, Jeremy Irons, and Edward Norton.

A powerful medieval epic that will age well with time.
