Review of Kingdom of Heaven (2005) by Amy F — 17 Apr 2011
I am going to start this movie with what kingdom of heaven did correctly. First the costumes and the scenes were excellently set-up and there was a strong vibe from that.
Thats about it for the good side, kingdom of heaven struggles vary hard under its bloated running time. First Orlando bloom looks rather awkward, in this movie everyone in this is Arab or distinctly English looking and then there is orlando bloom. Orlandos acting is very similar to pirates of the Caribbean and at time it looked like he forgot what movie he was in. Viewers at first understand why orlando is embarking on the crusade but after a branchy and allot of political talk his character is lost. Throughout the movie it felt as orlandos dad who is not even in the movie but only mentioned has more developement then orlando himself.
Besides acting kingdom of heaven suffers hard from its overly long political talk that leads up to almost nothing but a predictable ending. The problem with the political talks instead of new discoveries being made it is riddled with repetition and rehashing what was just said 10 minutes ago. The political talks also kill the vibe of the movie so when we reach the epic battle it does not bear the term epic. The long battle scenes are riddled with cliches and it brings the yes we have seen that before action let down. What ridley did better in gladiator was he gave gladiator a sense of direction and moving moving forward. This suffers from a severely branching plot and characters that seem to do what ever so appeases them.
