Review of Kingdom of Heaven (2005) by Jerome K — 11 Nov 2011
I'm disappointed in Ridley Scott because I know he can definitely do better. This ornate film surprisingly had very little depth. There were several times that I thought various subplots were going somewhere but they ended neatly and abruptly, leaving me feeling disappointed.
Orlando Bloom's character also left much to be desired as he was totally one-dimesional. Usually the hero has some sort of flaw or gimmick that humanizes them, but his character just seemed too perfect.
To go from a blacksmith to an instantly amazing fighter, leader, and tactitian was just too unbelievable for me. The story itself also was rife with historical inaccuracies and was obviously changed to a more friendly, peaceful Hollywood ending.
It's too bad, this movie could have been so much better.
