Review of Kingdom of Heaven (2005) by Jeremy P — 25 Apr 2012
The director's cut edition is actually my favorite movie in existence. I guess my only complaint would be that Bloom's acting was a bit stale - where he always looked confused in Lord of the Rings now he just looks pissed off. He didn't really seem to experience a range of emotions nor respond much to a growing relationship with other characters.
On a positive note, despite what these other reviewers blandly point out on their commentary of the theatrical edition (which isn't really THAT bad) the plot is generally consistent and interesting. There is a range of characters who have different personalities. The writer really should have made the protagonist multi- dimensional, but that would make the movie even friggin longer.
Some of these reviewers sound like they just wanted Gladiator 2. Sorry - some directors have enough self-respect to not jump on the re-make, re-boot, re-imagining train that has plagued Hollywood for the last decade.
