Review of Kingdom of Heaven (2005) by Mark H — 26 Apr 2012

A great action flick drenched in gallons of blood and cinemetography/visuals dripping with eye candy along with intricate plot/character relations and historical context.

All that would already make a great film but what really tops it off is the films messages about religion, both past and present. it shows how religion can be manipulated good or evil. the evil side: crusades obviously but in general inacvurate interpretation of texts, along with warmongers and power hungry using religion to justify their means. the good side, bettering yourself and the world around you and having spiritual clarity.

Though best of all is the message of religous tolerance which is left with you as the credits roll. by the end you realize how unneccessary and pointless the crusades were and it opens your eyes to parallels in the present world.. after all jerusalem 1000years later is still a warzone, and religous intolerance very apparent in some places.

My only problems with it was the beginning was a lil confusing and erratic plus the characters were a lil detached emotionally(a common flaw in Ridley Scott Movies) but by the second half these problems mostly ceased making it overall an entertaining movie.
