Review of Kingdom of Heaven (2005) by Keith R — 15 Nov 2012

The original theatrical release isn't just thin but it literally doesn't make much sense. Why does the Queen suddenly go all insane without any reason? How is it that a ordinary blacksmith can suddenly lead the defense of Jerusalem without any prior military background? Thankfully the Director's Cut not only overcomes these issues but also restores the film to what Ridley Scott always and obviously intended.

The 'real' Kingdom of Heaven presented in the director's cut is nothing short than a masterpiece on religion. Sure there are battles galore but it is in the underlying themes and messages which makes this stand out.

For me it's a better film than Gladiator. Kingdom of Heaven looks spectacular with music that is just as impressive and adds to the spectacle.
