Review of Kingdom of Heaven (2005) by Kirby P — 03 Aug 2011
A very good movie, and a bit of a history lesson to boot. Catholics, of course, won't like this movie since it makes the Pope and his devoted followers look bad.
I will admit that it was a bit difficult to keep track of who was killing whom at some points. And it's also worth noting that my wife found this movie contained far too much blood, gore, and guts for her taste, and in truth it really is far more graphic in that department than necessary. But in Ridley Scott's defense, the battles really were gruesome, and failing to portray that would be inaccurate.
This is a 2-DVD set. The entire movie is on the first DVD. The second DVD contains extras including a lengthy feature on "History vs. Hollywood" explaining some of the actual history of the time and pointing out where the movie departs from it. Of course, the history lessons are objective and balanced, so Christians again won't appreciate them seeing as how they've spent the intervening centuries trying to rewrite their shameful history.
