Review of Kingdom of Heaven (2005) by Alex K — 03 Aug 2013
It's a shame there isn't a separate page for the director's cut, because that's the version I saw and from what I understand it's vastly superior to the theatrical release. Either way, the film I saw was quite amazing.
To me, the crusades are a very exciting period in history, and I love the aesthetics of it. And while the battle sequences and costumes and everything is quite literally awesome, two things stuck out the most for me.
The first was its message, which I didn't really expect and was very moving. The other was the performance of Edward Norton. He is simply brilliant. Every second he appears onscreen is mesmerizing.
I very much enjoyed this film, and consider it a massive shame that most people will only be familiar with the theatrical release and not the truly brilliant directors cut.
