Review of King of the Zombies (1941) by Amy C — 21 May 2009
Using the traditional idea of Zombie making, this movie is really big on scares. Despite that, there are some things that I did enjoy about it.
The mad doctor who's making a zombie army is suitably dignified and malevalent in the grand tradition of Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi. The music is actually well done, and even though he's in what could be seen as a negatively stereotypical "black" role, Jeff- played by Mantan Moreland, was a pleasure to watch... and is the one actor that you will remember fondly from this film.
