Review of King of New York (1990) by Mathew B — 20 Sep 2007
A world without heroes will be filled with villains, and some of those villains will be heroic. The protagonist here somewhat overshadows excellent parts from a stellar supporting cast. In the melee that tears New York apart, its easy to focus on the crime boss portrayed, but all sides of the conflict, Generic Crime Syndicate A, Generic Asian Crime Syndicate B, Police, Family, and even the somewhat innocent bystanding civilians all put forth a kind of atmosphere of a desperate locale, and a people shoved, violently into a grand conflict in the dark.
