Abel Ferrara's dark New York Gangster movie...
The New York Gangster movie has been done some many times with differing results and despite the amount of movies out there to view I still always get excited when a new Gangster movie is announced (like Gangster Squad which is set for a 2012 release) so having heard so much about Ferrara's dark, twisted King Of New York it was only a matter of time before I watched it.
King Of New York won't blow you away but is still a very good effort and covers some new ground with the added inclusive of a ethnically divided criminal underworld.
Christopher Walken (Frank) stars as the kingpin released from jail and on a quest to reclaim what is his...However, at no point do you ever question Frank's authority and I think this movie could have done with a more Tony Montana rags to riches style build up. It never feels like his power is ever in doubt.
But overall it's a worthy inclusive into anyone's Gangster collection.
