Review of King of New York (1990) by Al M — 05 Aug 2010
I love this movie, but I can't give it any more than three stars. It is an amazing film and on the top of the list of my favourite gangster movies, yet it's by no means close to a perfect film.
As I said in my review for Bad Lieutenant, I feel like Abel Ferrara knows exactly where he wants to go but he never really gets there. I love this movie, yes, but I feel like there's more. Maybe I just wanted to see more of Frank White, maybe I want to know what happened in his life before he went to jail, I don't know.
. but I was left wanting more. Not in a bad way, just in a way that it left the movie feeling slightly off when I look closely at it. Otherwise, Christopher Walken puts in a classic performance as Frank White, one of the baddest mothas out there.
