Review of King of California (2007) by Sugeiny T — 11 Apr 2008
I expected a lot more from this movie. I felt it was a little bland, even boring, at times I would find myself paying attetion to the PC rather than the movie, so that's not a good sign. Evan Rachel Wood is one of my favorite young actresses there are, her performance did not let me down.
I felt identified with her character because I know what it is to have an irresponsible dad who sells stuff to get his way and who is not ever-present in your life, still, even with this in my life I couldn't get hooked on the film.
Michael Douglas performance was definitely genius! He owned his character in a way that not many actors can achieve. So as you guys see, my problem was not the cast, I think they were excellent. I think the director or the writers, or both tried too hard on making this film too convensional and all they got was an average ensemble.
Even the whole idea I think was original, and the fact that dealt with Costco and history, all of that was genius, it was just the development of it all. It felt like an ill-constructed puzzle, great pieces but badly put together.
