Review of King of California (2007) by Yusuf H — 02 Aug 2008
If you search the reviews of this movie, I expect two adjectives you'll find again and again are "quirky" and "bizarre." It was extremely well acted--in fact, without the calibar of acting this movie had, it could easily have descended into hackneyed cliches.
The script wasn't the strongest part of this movie: the characters were often flat-out stating whatever it was they were thinking, and only our main character went through any discernible change, but the script was solid.
Moreover, unlike most movies that aim for an open ending, this movie achieved the open ending, leaving it up to the viewers what exactly happened at the ending, without pre-determining it or without leaving it so vague and wishy-washy that it was completely indecipherable.
Well done.
