Review of King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962) by Jake D — 22 Aug 2010

A cheesy movie all the way through, but it's the cheesy factor that almost won me over, almost. I didn't really "like" it, but it did slap a smile or two on my face at times off of pure riciculousness.

I can't say I recommend it, but it is worth a look just for "shits", and giggles alone. The movie starts with news of an island where they find some form of "radioactive" berries.

They also mention some form of god who is offered these berries as worship towards him. The Japanese who are losing ratings due to the americans recieving the first form of news of this creature, set out to find the "god".

The scene than cuts to an american submarine who pick up some weird form of heat source in the antarctic waters. They seem to crash into this iceberg to waken a very angry Godzilla. Godzilla now awaken, and very mad heads towards Japan which is believed to be his natural habitat.

Godzilla arrives, and kicks the crap out of Japans military. Needing a defense Japntries to come up with better idea than using the atom bomb. Than we cut back to another ship heading toward the land of the "mega" berries in search of some hope to capture ratings.

Ayways once on the island the natives meet the Japanese "tourists" in a most unfriendly way. They eventually come across a giant octopus, and just when all hope is lost a man in a gorilla suit (fyi it is actually King Kong)comes to the rescue.

Kong wins the fight and is offered the berry juice as thanks. the japanese capture Kong, and head back to Japan. They are stopped by the Japanese miliatary and told to take Kong back fearing him to be just as disgruntled as Godzilla, and just as dangerous as well.

Kong however escapes and winds up in Japan also. The first encounter is supposed to have this sense of "AWW YEAH, FINALLY A GOOD FIGHT WORTHY OF MY ATTENTION, but nothing happens except for Kong fleeing like a bitch.

So Godzilla reigns supreme. A little later Kong catures a woman and climbs on top of a building, and is brought to a calm when they play the jungle music they used tp praise him earlier. The military takes Kong back to Godzilla this time hoping for a brawl which we do get.

Kong and Godzilla fights, and just when all hope is gone, an electriacal storm suprises everyone by powering Kong up, and apparently making him super Kong. Nom that the score is even Kong starts taking it to Godzilla.

They eventually both wind up rolling down a hill into the ocean where Kong is seen swimming away, and as for Godzilla no one knows.I wound up watching the american version of the film because it was the only copy I could get so tough break there, but as far a Kong winning we are typical ego maniacs, and need Kong to win.

A very cheesy film, worth a look if you like that kind of thing, but it's basically a let down at best. Watch with caution.
