The first half of this movie is actually fine on its own. I was having a blast watching the human characters, which is nearly never the case in Kaiju movies. Then the titular monsters show up and...ew.
The monster suits looked fine in the previous Godzilla movies because the film quality was just plain bad. I don't know if it's the fact that this has been digitally restored or something, but this is Godzilla's first venture into the realm of color.
..and my God these suits look bad. Disregarding the special effects, this is a fine entry in the series because it's just so damn fun to watch. And that's what I love about Godzilla. It's just stupid fun.
