Review of King Kong (1933) by Sanford R — 22 Nov 2008
The Classic - the template from which all other giant monster films draw. There isn't any wandering about in this film. after 20 minutes you're on the Island and this film just doesn't stop.
Iconic moments - Kong's breaking of the gate. And of course Kong's last stand at the top of the Empire State building remains an indeliable image. The Special effects while not up to date were done better than films made 20 years later and the stop motion allows Kong in this film to have a real presense in the film - the remake didn't have that or Fay Wray - she of the best scream in moive history and the torn dress.
ahh.
