Review of King Kong (1933) by Max D — 25 Apr 2010
I'm still having trouble deciding if I like this or the Peter Jackson version better. This was definately more revolutionary for its time than the Jackson version and without this the Jackson version probably wouldn't even exist.
It's a classic story and any person any age can easily get into it. The scene of King Kong on the Empire State Building will definately go down in my mind as one of the most memorable scenes in all of cinema history.
The effects look pretty bad by today's standards and I definately prefer Jackson's version for effects, they are still amazing techniques that were developed especially during its time. The characters also seem pushed aside to focus on Kong, which is disappointing for me, cause I liked the characters and how they are expanded in Jackson's version.
While the movie is simple this film is one of America's greatest works and you can't deny this film has inspired all sorts of film-makers.
