Review of King Kong (1933) by Apurv G — 03 Jul 2011
I just showed this to my teenaged son last night. It holds up surprisingly well! There is a certain amount of stereotyping and outright racism towards minorities, but the adventure about the giant gorilla who goes all out to defend a beautiful woman against snakes, dinosaurs and humans is still a great piece of movie history.
Yes the acting is very stagy and theatrical, and yes, the special effects aren't that special by today's standards, but the solid (if preposterous) story and the obvious care that went into this film make it a movie classic.
There's a reason this film is still being re-made today.
