Review of King Arthur (2004) by S L — 11 Sep 2009
Begrudgingly saw this movie and was pleasantly surprised. Better than most movies Ive seen this year, and its 2009. Admittedly, the soundtrack was way too loud (but its Hanz Zimmer and the London Phil.
), coupled with acting and the blood spurting, ends up a bit over the top, but why shouldn't it be: its an adventure movie and like most should not be taken seriously. Unfortunate film and sound editing only because they create giggles and eyerolls, but its tolerable.
Having said that, this movie actually adds some historic morsels which create a nice story different from the typical Arthurian legend, which there has not been such an interesting storyline on the big screen since Excalibur (1981).
The ending is silly, and the alternative ending is less silly. While it may be better viewed as a matinee, and is nearly as entertaining as The Thirteenth Warrior(1999). Finally, what actor wouldnt want to do such a movie? It looks like fun, doesnt it?
