Review of Kindergarten Cop (1990) by The Critic ( — 29 Dec 2013
What makes this dark comedy/thriller rise above being yet another vehicle for Arnold Schwarzenegger is his supporting cast's commitment to the material. Flawless performances from Pamela Reed, Penelope Ann Miller, Carroll Baker, Richard Tyson and Linda Hunt add credibility to the proceedings as Schwarzenegger attempts to gain control of a class of cute kids - or 'monsters', as he puts it - and close a criminal case he's been obsessing about.
The book ends are considerably darker than the middle portion of the film and this lack of balance could easily make for an uneven piece that's unsure of itself. Ivan Reitman, however, keeps things under control, providing an altogether entertaining and engaging movie.
