Review of Kindergarten Cop (1990) by Robert B — 25 Nov 2011
This film is really divided into two parts. One part is where Schwarzenegger plays a serious and tough police officer that's after a notorious drug dealer and the other part is when Schwarzenegger plays a kindergarten teacher.
The film deals with the transition surprisingly well, however at times I felt like I was watching an entirely different film. I enjoyed the first and last parts of Kindergarten Cop, but then it came to Schwarzenegger being a teacher to a group of children.
I would have rather seen some more connection to the central storyline than having to watch scenes of undercover Detective Kimble (Schwarzenegger) read to the class and play games with them. Being a comedy, there are some very funny moments in this film, however I found a few to be a bit corny and silly.
Nevertheless, this is an entertaining picture that's a mix and match of some serious action sequences and a more light, comic and humorous approach that plays on the novelty of a tough detective teaching kindergarten classes.
It's not a bad comedy with some entertaining parts and definitely one of the better comedies Schwarzenegger has starred in.
