Review of Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949) by Geonard Y — 11 Dec 2006
Directed by Robert Hamer.
Starring Dennis Price, Alec Guinness, Valerie Hobson, Joan Greenwood.
Mention the movie and the first thing that comes to mind is Alec Guinness and his performances, tackling eight roles of the noble D?Ascoyne line of dukedom that it overshadowed in popularity Dennis Price?s own priceless role of the scheming, murdering outcast of the royal blood: Louis Mazzini D?Ascoyne was the heart and soulessness of this excellent British black comedy. The movie is wonderful storytelling caught in the irony of the first person narrative. Engaging and exciting with an unforgettable host of characters in the tradition of great British acting. A comedy of manners, a delightful piece.
Best Scene: Louis and Sibella talk suicide note.
