Review of Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949) by Gareth M — 16 Aug 2009
The Manner and the Reasoning of each murder, as if it were some petty nuisance. Whislt delivered in such a dryful and reassuring manner, it can't help but bring a wry smile to both the character, and both us the viewer.
Of course at its heart, is a rags to riches story, with a wonderful charming hero, against the dismissive self rightious elite, which in turn with the dark humour brings every "unfortunate accident" to the D'Ascoyne all the more satifying. Joan Greenwood as Sibella is perfect, as the unrequited love interest and femme fatale. Also Alec Guiness in a mulitude of cameos, none better than the women's right Lady D'Ascoyne.
The double ending twist also is apt for the film.
