Review of Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949) by Jj M — 27 Sep 2011
Something viciously unsettling ruminates in the background of this triumphant late 40s British comedy. It really is a delicious slice of dark humour and is surprisingly over half a century old...its originality and purposeful endevour to create an authoritive hillarity on something so immoral may never have been surpassed in the intervening years between then and the present (perhaps American Psycho?).
Joan Greenwood is utterly delectable in her many extravagent tight-fitting dresses. It took me a time to sink my teeth into it but when Mazzini takes a bow and arrow to the window and aims at a hot-air balloon, I just accepted it as a pure joy!
