All the critical reviews are accurate; this movie was slow at times and unsure of whether it was a family drama, crime thriller or sci-fi flick. It was a little bit JIm Cameron and a little bit Martin Scorsese. But hey, the gun was really cool!

Despite the movies flaws, it was entertaining enough and I would really like to see where the sequel takes this. The entire movie, with the twist at the end, seems like one long commercial for the movie the creators really want to make.

One thing truly worth mentioning is the performances. Dennis Quaid is excellent as the struggling working class dad, newcomer.

Myles Truitt is phenominal and skilled beyond his years, and James Franco is mesmerizingly brilliant as the sociopathic antagonist. I can't say enough how much I was blown away by Franco in this role. If this was a pure drama, he would no doubt get an academy award nomination. He deserves one anyway. Daniel Casey (screenplay) and Josh and Jonathan Baker deserve another chance - Kin was stylish, well-directed and entertaining. Just pick up the pace in the next one boys.
