Review of Killshot (2008) by Michael A — 02 Jun 2009
Diane Lane and Thomas Jane play a married couple that are going through a separation. They are forced to live together though after a confrontation with two hit-men played by Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Lookout) places them in Witness Protection.
Rourke is obsessed with killing anyone that has seen his face. Yet, Gordon-Levitt's character is such a loose cannon that he shoots at Thomas Jane's character at a gas station. Don't they usually have cameras ? I guess in this movie they don't since the police don't know what the killers look like and only the couple does.
Despite flaws like that though, I liked Rourke, Lane and and Jane. Rourke brings a little bit of a human side to a relentless killer. While Lane is always good as well. Jane isn't bad as a man who loves his wife and wants to work things out. He cares more about their marriage problems more than being hunted by hit-men, he even says that in one scene lol.
While Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a really good actor but I just don't see why he's getting cast as a villain of late. He's also going to play Cobra Commander in G.I Joe and I just don't get why. He's better as an underdog hero like in Brick and the Lookout. Here he just strides around looking sleazy and mean and tries hard to be a bad ass but I barely bought it. I can't say that I didn't enjoy some of his scenes with Rourke though. Rosario Dawson's talent was the most wasted though since she just plays Gordon-Levitt's girlfriend that has a thing for Elvis. Anyone could have played the part. While Johny Knoxville is listed as being in the movie and I can't say I remember seeing him once.
