Review of Killshot (2008) by Peter J — 08 Jun 2009
I don't know why it took me so long to post this review but Killshot is an absolute must-see! I cannot stress it enough, go... rent... this... flick!
Killshot has a lot of great things going for it. First and foremost, a brilliant Cast; Mickey Rourke plays an experienced hit man and a psychopathic young upstart killer. His screen presence is just enthralling; his character mannerisms and distinct voice are what makes him stand out. (as always, no?) I don't know where he's been all this time but he is official here to stay.
While on the subject, I figure I might as well talk about the great visuals and production design of Killshot. John Madden (Director) alongside Andrew Jackness (Production Designer) and Cinematographer Caleb Deschanel make an incomparable team. The lighting is high contrast and mood very "thriller-esque"- not a tough story to follow. Rourke's character design is also commendable; key word, suave. Everything from the ponytail to the sleek leather "matrix" outfits, great.
The rest of the Cast is just as praiseworthy. The story allows for credible performances from actors like Joseph Gordon-Levitt (3rd Rock from the Sun- surprise, I know), Thomas Jane and Diane Lane. I sometimes find myself watching films and catching continuity errors etc. but this one just did it for me. A thoroughly enjoyable film to watch- full of twists and turns without ever losing momentum.
