Brutally violent and profane, the story of a mob assassin knocking off the crooks who robbed a mob gambling house is overlaid with radio/TV pronoucements of American leaders facing the impending implosion of Wall Street in 2008.

It's a rather intriguing construct - that the integrity of the mob gambling system is at stake in the same way that stock markets are imperiled by the rogue actions of some. But the allegory is heavy-handed and doesn't entirely works in the end; besides, the violence was so grotesque that I was too disgusted to think deeply about it.

It's hard not to enjoy watching Brad Pitt at work, and he is compelling as the assassin who prefers to kill from a distance so he doesn't have to listen to his victims beg for mercy; but I won't be watching this one again.
